Parents repeatedly asked for more information about how to identify substance abuse and what to do if you think a child is using. In response, a group of ASAP volunteers created a mock teen bedroom exhibit for parents to learn about numerous potential warning signs. The exhibit – Hidden in Plain Sight (HIPS) – launched in February of 2017 and has been hosted at 14 different community events or locations thru March 2019.
Parents are given a checklist with over 20 items to find, along with a short description about each. Nearly 500 parents participated thru March of 2019, and over 300 volunteer hours were generated to make this possible. Parents in the Winona County Treatment Court also helped create and support the exhibit.
If you would like to host the exhibit at your organization please call 507-474-2727 or email [email protected]. Due to COVID-19 ASAP has modified our HIPS exhibit and created a virtual video for community members over the age of 18 to access. If interested in this resource please call 507-474-2727 or email [email protected]
