September is National Recovery Month! The 2020 Recovery Month theme is “Everyday Recovery.” This theme emphasizes the need to share resources and build networks across the country that support recovery in all its forms.
The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) program here is Winona County is taking this opportunity to discuss substance use disorder recovery. We want to highlight the importance of speaking openly about recovery and finding treatment. It’s our job to help end the stigma surrounding addiction by sharing resources and starting conversations. We encourage family, friends, and loved ones to learn more about substance use disorders and mental illness by recognizing what resources are available to help those find treatment and therapy.
Here are some important resources you should know:
• Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) (www.aa.org): Lists resources for those experiencing alcohol dependence; helps individuals find and join a local chapter.
• Narcotics Anonymous (NA) (www.na.org): Lists resources for those experiencing substance use disorders; helps individuals find and join a local chapter.
• National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) (www.nami.org): List resources for those experiencing mental illness; helps individuals find and join support groups.
